Lisa Stone Barnes, a Nash County native, is currently serving District 11 in the North Carolina Senate representing Franklin, Nash and Vance Counties. Through her years of service in the NC Senate, NC House and on the Nash County Board of Commissioners, she has worked to promote quality of life while also keeping taxes low for citizens.
Lisa began her career in the legal field as a real estate paralegal with a private firm. She also worked in the Rocky Mount Planning and Development Department. Lisa is a graduate of the UNC School of Government’s Advanced Leadership Corps program.
Lisa has worked in agribusiness alongside her husband, Johnny Barnes, to whom she has been married for over 35 years. They have three children– Bethany, Joshua, and Jacy. In 2022, Lisa and her husband welcomed their first grandchild into the family. Lisa and her family are also active members of Ridgecrest Worship Center.
Lisa graduated from Southern Nash High School and went on to obtain an Associate of Arts degree from Peace College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from North Carolina State University. Lisa also completed the post graduate Legal Assistants Program at Meredith College.
In order to keep our state moving in the right direction we need leaders like Lisa with the right expertise, vision and leadership skills. Lisa believes our citizens deserve high-paying jobs in a diversified economy, access to quality healthcare, good roads and infrastructure, and quality education. We need leaders in the General Assembly who understand that the government’s main function is to balance the budget, control spending and keep taxes low, so that individuals and communities can continue to excel and reach their highest potential.
Lisa’s diverse experience with businesses, managing budgets, serving our communities and working to solve real problems enables her to provide conservative leadership with a common-sense approach. Throughout Lisa’s leadership experience in the NC Senate, NC the House and on the Board of Commissioners, she has facilitated practical solutions to the issues her constituents face. She is committed to listening to and representing the citizens in Senate District 11 and working with members of the General Assembly to ensure that North Carolina’s best days are still ahead.
